Gauge mayhem in 72 spider

This morning, at thge beginning of a 40 mile drive, my gauges worked
fine.  An hour later, on the return trip, the oil pressure and fuel
gauges were acting erratically, and would drop to zero when the
accellerator pedal was released.  The water temp gauge stays in the
middle of its range.  I suspected a loose chassis ground strap, but it's
fine.  Any suggestions?  Thanks.
