Jack;
	the reason people refer to hurricanes with such tight
tolerances is because it may look fairly big on the weather channel
GOES picture the visible, infrared and even radar pictures only give
you second hand information about the dynamics inside the storm. For
example, the town where I live was at one time only 25 or 30 miles
away from the eye of Georges and the winds here wher relatively mild
(we got sustained winds of 70 and gust between 106 and 115 mph). where
my dad and in laws lived there where measured gusts of over 200 mph
(even though this was oficially an cat. 2 storm of less than 115 mph
sustained winds) and they got totally devastated. It turns our
tornados form around the eye and you get a lot more damage in that
very small neighborhood.
