There was a mystery show years ago, maybe Perry Mason, in which analyzing the
headlight bulb filament led to the solution of the mystery.  The bulb filament
will burn out differently if it is energized when air hits it (brakes on then
crash) than it will if energized while in air (brakes applied after the crash
or not applied at all)
