relays

this has been covered in the past, in detail, (consult archives).

in brief, stock loom wire particularly the low beam (eg 105, 1sqmm conductor
cross section, "3mm" auto-wire), will effect a voltage drop that will cause your
100W bulbs to put out less than a 100w. You may think your new installation is
the best thing since sliced bread, but the fact of the matter is, the situation
will be a few slices short of a full loaf. Bright, brighter, brightest, apply to
perception and execution.

Conversely if you over voltage , bulb life drops dramatically, eg if regulator
is not fullfilling its role. Comments about the durability and contact
integrity, and circuit resistance, of the stock light switch are valid. Also
factor in length of the stock circuit, terminal corrosion induced resistance
etc.

relays should be considered mandatory if you are upgrading to 100/90, 100
combo's, or variants thereof. They will also typically improve the otherwise
stock situation noticably.
