164s trunk hinges

Someone told me the other day my 91 164s had the new style trunk hinge
mechanisim and sooner or later it would cause a crease in the rear quarter
panels and I should convert to the older style with the spring etc. Has
anyone had this problem and how did you fix it. Thanks
