Smallwood's Giulia TI moves up 1 to 6th OA

John Smallwood and his Giulia TI moved up one place to 6th overall
after the second day (Monday) in the 9,000 mile The Shield of Africa
Rally.
Smallwood, car owner and navigator for English rally driver Howard
Paterson, is the only American in the top ten - and has the only Alfa
Romeo participating.
  Porsche 911s are one-two-three, followed by a 240Z and a Ford Escort.
Twenty-eight pre-1971 cars started the FIA competition class in the
rally.
The rally's web site reported the second day consisted of mountain rim
driving in remote Namibia (there's a route map) in low light, dust and
deep sand traps.
A Mercedes driver has already had to replace a connecting rod, bent
when he submerged the car on Day One, and a Datsun driver purchased and
installed a replacement differential along the route.
