Spider Air Filter

I had the air filter off the spider last night and noticed two little holes
in the bottom of the air box. One of these has a thin pipe
leading...nowhere.  And the other one has nothing attached.  Can anyone shed
any light on what these are?  Where should the disconnected line come from?
The car is a twin-carb (Dellortos) 2.0l,
