750 SS "Lownose" Info

David,
One hundred and one 750 SS's were built in 1959-1960.The serial
#'s are from AR10120 0001to AR 10120 0101.Of these,99 were "Lownose"
including 8 or 9 all-aluminum bodied cars.The last two serial #'s (10120
0100 and 101200101 were not Lownoses.Any SS's with serial #'s after
10120 0101 will be standard production 101 cars.My research has shown
that 40 of the cars were white, one was grey and the other 60 were red!.I
think most of the interior on all cars was red w/grey inserts, but there
could be other interior colors, like all grey,or black w/grey
inserts.....I owned # 10120 0095 (sold it in 1997) and it was red
w/red/grey interior.
The Lownose differed from the later production SS's in nearly
every aspect. The doors( as well as hood and trunk-as on production SS's)
were aluminum and the rear window and the rear 1/4 windows were
plexiglass. There was no front or rear bumper, and all of the fenderlines
were quite diferent. The floorpan was also very different with a cut-out
and box in the footwells to slightly lower the floorpan. The standard
1959-1961 Giulietta parts book will show the 750 SS's with most of the
differences having part notations refering to "cars up to # 100".
Although the car was refered to as a "750"(the ID plate on the
car says "750SS") most of the car is 101.The transmission is a splitcase
101 style 5spd,the suspension is 101,the engine #'s are 101 (AR
00120*____).All 750 SS's will have engine #'s starting with
AR00120*____..
Feel free to contact me if I can be of more assistance.
Best,
