The red line is determined by many
limits, the main one being mean piston
speed, which is the primary reason short
stroke multi cylinder engine rev far
higher.

Honda sell a road motorcycle, the CBR250,
which is a 250cc 4 cylinder 4 stroke with
16 valves, which has a red line of
19000rpm. They also have had race engines
running at 22000 and claim to have bench =

tested engines at up to 27000rpm, all using
conventional valve springs.
