late entry on Spider window woes

In AD7-079 Rodney G. Tidwell responds to KJM's advice on his Spider window
problems. This may be gratuitous, but over the (many) years the vast majority
of my window problems have been, or descended from, the glass channels. If one
or the other is worn, torn, or crudded up, and/or if there is any slop in the
regulator, a window can cock enough for a leading corner to dig in and do more
damage to the base of the channel. This can easily lead to a specific symptom
mentioned, "The window raises fine but 8 of 10 times it lowers v-e-r-y s-l-o-
w-l-y" or vice-versa. Sometimes just lightly pushing the top edge of the
window back or forward while raising or lowering can have a dramatic effect on
the speed, helping the diagnosis. Cleaning helps, a dab of silicone grease can
help, and replacing the channel liner is a lot cheaper than a motor. The JC
Whitney catalog lists about thirty different types if your local Alfa
franchise doesn't stock it.
