spider front speakers

I want to replace the front speakers (the ones down by the driver and
passenger's feet) in my '86 Spider. To my dismay I found that one screw on
the passenger side speaker is blocked by the fan housing. Do I have to
tear the whole dash apart, remove the fan housing, and then replace the
speaker, or is there an easier way? Any help appreciated...
