Alfa 75/Milano Control Centre thingy

I have just bought a 1987 Alfa 75/Milano 2.5 V6.
It is in good nick but I seem to have a minor problem with the Control
Centre.
It is located in the centre of the dash and is supposed to indicate when
various things are broke or empty, ie. tail lights, oil level, washer
level, etc. It has a propensity to flash just about anything at just
about any time. The only thing that doesn't seem to flash is the
handbrake warning light, even though it should when the handbrake is up!
Any tricks to getting this thing to work properly. In my BMW the trick
is to disconnect the battery for 15 minutes and try again, but this has
just had a new battery put in so I don't think its that but I will try
it this weekend.
You response is eagerly awaited.
