Re: Stock GTV tires

Your use of the Vredestein tires brings back memories. I changed from the
original Pirelli Cinturatos to 195/70 Vredesteins very shortly after
purchasing my GTV in 1971. In my opinion, Alfa Romeo (keep John H's friend
happy) was trying to hit a price point and was not as up to date on tire
technology as they could have been, as they were just trying to get the cars
USA certified.

As far as "vintage" feel of the car, no modern tire you can buy now is going
to give you the same feel as the 1960's engineering that went into the early
70's tires. Remember, 70 series tires were just becoming available in 68/69.
Maybe going to 245/30 tires would change the vintage feel, but the 185/70's
will certainly be a better bet, and I agree with the digester who mentioned,
the 165's will be too narrow for 6" rims.

As an aside, I had to replace three of the four Vredesteins I bought because
they were either out of round or had sidewall separation.
