Lambda probe

Do we have any experts out there who can explain the following?

Some four weeks ago I installed a new Bosch/Alfa Lambda probe, and, as 
posted, got "check engine" lights all the time--I then bought another 
type probe from Ian Lomax (thanks, Ian) but haven't installed it yet. 
Since then, the "check..." has been lighting on a random basis, and now 
doesn't light at all, indicating that everything is fine. What could the 
passage of time and miles do to improve its performance?
