Re: alfa-digest V7 #24 RE: Oils in Spica

Godfrey asks,
  Here's a quickie question for y'all.

'78 Alfa Romeo Spider. SPICA injection. I always have Mobil 1 15w50 on
hand as I use it in all my motorcycles, and over the course of the last
3000 miles between oil changes, I would top it up with Mobil 1. It ran
smoother and cooler that way.

However, service tells me that he doesn't put synthetic into SPICA cars
because Alfa Romeo specifically states that it's not compatible with the

SPICA injection unit. I've got no clue as to why this would be so,
neither does he, but as he is an Alfa dealer and service specialist, he
won't use it.

Anyone have information on this that would let me understand why? Or
experiences with synthetic oil in SPICA cars?

Thanks!
Godfrey

Godfrey, I think your Alfa dealer-service specialist does not sell Mobil
1 so he won't use it. He is either lying or just does not know any
better, I think. Use Mobil 1 in the engine and in the Spica pump. If
you live up North in very cold regions, your Alfa will love you for
using Mobil 1!
