Meeoughta??

Jeez, you guys! Swear to God, if Miatas rusted out in a week, wouldn't
start in the rain or cold, pissed oil all over your driveway, cost
$40k apiece and had Lucas electrics, we would all be crazy in love
with'em! But NO: they start and run with boring reliability, the
original polish job lasts longer than F*** sheet metal, and they're
cheap enough and cute enough that Mazda can't keep'em in stock, so
they're obviously not worth dogshit.

"Don't know how to fold a convertible top"? No, and I bet they don't
know how to drive a car with the mixture control and ignition advance
on the steering wheel, either. Why on earth should they? Or "wave at
fellow roadsters"? I remember when ANY furrin car was waving material.
Hell, Jaguar guys would wave at Beetles!

Yup, Miatas have made sports cars in general less "special" just by
being really nice little cars that lots of people can afford, just as
VWs eventually became as "special" as Fords. So what? If our beloved
Alfas hadn't been so bleeding SPECIAL we could probably still buy a
new one, instead of being members (as someone at the AROC convention
pointed out) of a *used car* club.

There's plenty of soulless, boring machinery coming out of Japan (and
other places), but it's not popularity that makes it so. When all the
inevitable compromises in a car's design are resolved in favor of
cost-cutting and against taking any risks, the car will be stupid and
dull whether it sells or not. The Miata was designed very much in
defiance of a lot of conventional wisdom, and has succeeded in spite
of that. It's a fairly brilliant little car, no matter how many they
sell (or to whom).

So. Reckon those seats will fit?
