73 GTV, Le Mans Blue

To David Ziglin and the Digest,

My door sticker disappeared during a restoration but my
ownership says 1973. The VIN is 3021831. Is yours higher
or lower than this? I had another '73 (Silver) that had
VIN 3020442. According to production figures in appendix
5 of David Owen's book "Alfissimo", there were 6,951 2000GTV's
made in 1971, 13,298 made in 1972, and another 17,300 made
between 1973 and 1977. These figures include U.S. versions.
So, logically, if they started the 2000GTV VIN's at 3000001
any VIN after 3020249 would be a 73 or newer. Since both
my GTV's are within 1,582 VIN's of a 1972 I tend to think
they really are 1973's, even the Le Mans Blue one, unless,
of course, Alfa made less than 1,581 1973 GTV's, which I
highly doubt. Hope this helps.

Regards,

Greg Connolly.

Subject: Greg Connolly and his '73 Le Mans Blue GTV

Hello Greg and other ADers

An owner of an original Le Mans Blue GTV as I have, insisted that only 3
hundred and some were produced and ALL in '74. I have what the Alfa owner
po and classics dealer (all same person) identified as a '73. After the
above discussion I actually checked the production tag in the door sill; it
said '74.

BTW, my GTV does not have rear seat belts, his did. Strange for a 2
seater, humm?

Comments/information anyone??

David
