Subject: HELP - Driveshaft removal problem - GTV-6

I've pulled the t/a out of my GTV-6 to put in a nice
low mileage Milano one. So the t/a is out, de Dion
tube and rear suspension as well. I took the rear donut
out with the t/a. Now, according to articles I've read,
I should undo the front donut, and remove the driveshaft
from the car and disassemble out of the car - I want to
redo all the donuts.

Here's my problem: how do I stop the driveshaft and/or
engine from rotating while trying to undo the nuts on
the front donut. I tried putting a wrench on a smaller
center donut nut(17mm versus 19mm front and rear donuts?)
and turning in the opposite direction but something turned
after applying extreme force and it wasn't the front donut
nut! All of the donut bolts are regular thread, right?
(i.e. counterclock-wise to loosen) One other curious
thing I found was different size nuts and bolts on the
center donut. The are all 17mm but some of the bolts
are longer and some of the nuts are deeper. Could this
be part of the factory balancing of the driveshaft or
is this a screw up from a previous repair?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. TIA.

Greg Connolly.
