Leaking head gasket

Hi all

My Verde has developed an oil leak that appears to be coming from the
head gasket at the back of the drivers side head.  I have a couple of
questions about the situation.
1. Is this a common/known problem?  I can't see very well back there
(have to get one of those little mirrors).  Are there any other
locations that are likely culprits that I should more carefully check
out as the source of the leak?
2. Assuming that the head gasket is the problem, what do I need to know
about replacing it?  I've never pulled a head on an engine with cylinder
liners, and don't want any of them to come loose.  Any special
procedures, cautions I should be aware of?
