Owner values

Regarding Alfa Owner values...

I, too, noticed this strange value list. Since they didn't note where they got the
figures (DOH!!), who knows what they're based on.

I would hazard to guess that they are probably taking their values from CPI (Cars of
Particular Interest), which in turn apparently gets most of their Alfa values from
Sports Car Market. I'm sure SCM, a specialist magazine that keeps a close eye on the
market, means well, but they have been criticized more than once for their attitudes
toward the Alfa market (which, from what I could tell, could be summed up as "alfas
are neat cars but poor investments, why not try a Ferrari instead?").

Since I know spider values, it was their wonkiness that struck me first. I, for one,
would especially like to know where to pick up "excellent" '71-'74 spiders for less
than $5,000. IME, those don't exist anymore.

Again, IME, "excellent" '71-74 spiders seem to be going for $5500-6500, but my
sampling is pretty small (4 cars in the past 1-2 years) and not geographically spread
(east coast only).

My opinions only, etc.
