Re: alfa-digest V7 #5 RE: Voltage stabilizor

Paul Kessels '86 Spider should have a voltage as measured AT the battery
of not kess than 14 volts at idle speed with no load of lights or
anything more than engine operating load. The measurements should be
done with a digital volt-ohmmeter for accuracy.

"Stabilizor" might describe a type of electrical device but more
appropriately, what you have is "Voltage Regulator" which controls the
output of the alternator voltage (now being called "generator" by some),
to some predetermined level, with and without load. The Bosch system
is designed to operate at a maximum of 16 volts, the point of highest
efficiency before burnout. The voltage should not exceed 14.3 volts
because at 14.4 volts batteries begin to gas (boil ). One will find his
car runs best at a high voltage of 14.3.
