But lest we forget.... after all, this is the Alfa Digest:

Alfa nearly went that way too: the Type 103 that got as far as running 
prototype(s?) in 1960 was (twin cam) transverse front engine, in line gearbox, 
and just as ugly as the Renaults that were being developed at the same time.... 
Check out Pat Braden's Giulia History and Restoration book, pg 24-25 for pictures 
of the car and the engine-transaxle. Just love the 90 degree belt drive for the 
generator!
