[alfa] RE: alfa-digest V10 #441

Dean,
You need to remove the axle from the differential not jut the brake
disc; no special tools required. You can pull the axle with the brake disc
still attached; there are 4 bolts that hold the everything together. Over
time things tend to rust together and getting things apart require the
application of some heavy hammers. But it will come apart.

With the axle out, check out the wheel bearing. And if you have
never removed the brake disc, this is great time to do it because they rust
to the hub and are difficult to remove on the car. Once apart, clean up the
rust and apply some anti-seize (never-seize) to the mating surfaces so that
it won't happen again.

Subject: [alfa] 105 axle oil seals

I have oil running down the inner side of the rear disc dust shield on my
105. I am assuming this means an oil seal has gone at the end of the axle
tube. Is this a fairly straightforward job to replace once the disc assembly
is off or are special tools required?

Cheers,
dean
