Anyone know how to fix broken cable for trunk release for '87 milano?

In the back seat on the driver's side of the car, down in the crack
between the bottom seat cushion and the back should be a nylon string. It might
still be connected to the trunk latch and it might open the trunk as intended.
However, if the string is gone or the latch screws are loose so that
pulling the normal release and / or the emergency release just moves the latch
mechanism around, you have a problem. Remove the license plate and the plastic
behind it. Drill a hole somewhere in the center and you should be able to trip
the latch with a screwdriver. Of course it is easier to tell where to drill
the hole with the trunk open and the inner trunk liner removed
Once the trunk is open, you can use the old cable to drag a new one
through. You may have to undo the carpets, remove the rear seat, etc. It has been
some years since I owned a Milano.
