[alfa] RE: smaller alternator



Hi All

As other racers have said, its possible to run for quite a while on battery
alone. Once the battery voltage drops too low for the ignition the "automatic
warning system" will kick in ... Misfiring!  :-) I make certain that the
battery is fully charged every time the car goes out and essential to this is
that an external battery is used for starting because that's when most of the
current drain occurs. Both the Formula Ford and the GTA racer run minus
alternator and are started and warmed up using an external battery with the
internal battery being switched just as the car goes out to the dummy grid.
