Just went through this myself... The sender wire is under the airbox. Mine had fallen off. I just replaced all my gauges with good, mechanical VDO gauges, now I know what ACTUAL temperature my engine is at, as well as my oil pressure (and these things are accurate. I was a bit low, and it would change with acceleration because I was starving the sender). I wouldn't worry too much about it, but check out your sender and gauge when you get a chance, and I highly recommend going with good mechanical gauges.
