[alfa] RE: merde - Oil pump shaft resolved.

Thanks for the good suggestions George. I finished the project, and you were
right on the money about making a quarter inch drive socket fit to replace
the oil pump without much work! I checked the clearance and end play on the
used pump I got from Ebay and the broken part in my 73, and the Ebay one was
best in every respect so I simply used it. It appears the previous rebuild
did not include a new oil pump and did shear the pump shaft right at the
drive gear pin. We were careful to turn the motor when tightening the pump
and the oil pressure is better than most of my recent spiders.

FOR THE RECORD IT WAS NOT THE NEW PUMP, IT WAS THE INSTALLATION; IT IS A
FACT AND AS I SAID THERE WAS A FACTORY BULLETIN .

i'd heat the shaft pump gear and CAREFULLY install it on the used
shaft/.bronze gear.

i recall clearly the op removal -- i used a 13mm 6 point 1/4 drive
socket with extensions AND I GROUND THE EDGES--ROUNDED OFF -- THE
SOCKET WHERE THE EXTENSION WENT IN

happy wrenching.
