RE: [alfa] 1977 GTV 2000 transaxle vibration mystery

Don't know if I'm a little too late on this one..

I researched into this, since I was wondering about mine as well.. though it probably is OK and some of what I hear is likely the beginnings of transmission bearings. What I found out was, calling your local RV or Trucking center is a good way to either find them as a source of driveshaft balancing, or the local specialist they use. The guy here would balance a small (car size) two piece driveshaft for $50-60 or so.

If/when I go thru the U-joints, I might have it done just to be sure.. Wish I knew about how to evaluate when you have too much spline slop though..

Jason,

The weights are in different places on every driveshaft -- which doesn't help
much as an explanation. Unfortunately, you'll have to remove the driveshaft
and take it to a place that can balance the two pieces at the same time.
Balancing each half individually is likely to improve the situation, but not
cure it totally.
