Subject: [alfa] Change out of speedometer take-off at transmission

.... I have a question about the speedometer take-off at the
transmission. The one on my car had the square ID where the
     cable fits
rounded off. So when I removed the speedometer take-off from
     the parts car
(also a 73) to check it I was surprised to find it having a
     significantly
larger drive gear. Does anyone know the reason for different
     size gears?

When I (with the same problem in my '86) called Alfa Parts Exchange for
a "new" piece, I was told that there were two (as I recall) gear sets
which were used in various years. Maybe broadly an early and a late
set, with some overlap. APE sold me both gears of the pair from an
'80's car to go into the '86 and I was happy to find that the small gear
was identical in size to the unit I removed. (The speedo is now
functional). But the APE folks seem to know the details. I don't know
more than I told you.
