Mick,

my advice: buy a used car in Germany. Way cheaper, way easier, very clear
process. Italy is a MESS when buying used cars, they charge a lot, and
everything takes time. Germany has the process perfected. It's even closer,
although driving through the alps in an alfa is always fun...
