[alfa] buying a car in italy

hullo..
i'm considering buying a car in italy and driving it home to ireland. i know some digesters are living in italy, and i was wondering if there's any way of getting a car checked out independently there? any other advise would also be apprecited.. the car's located near Bologna. i'd like to keep the "adventure" aspect of the endevour limited to the trip home..!
