[alfa] Re: GTV6 engine swap
Joe,
I am pretty sure that you have to pull the driveshaft to get the
motor out. If you undo the slip yoke at the front guibo, the
driveshaft will pull out of it, and you can wait until the motor is
out to get the donut off the flywheel. The splined portion of the
front of the driveshaft will only go back into the slip yoke one
way, so there are no alignment issues. I don't think you can slide
the motor forward far enough to completely disengage the bolts from
the donut. I have done several engine swaps on my GTV6, and have
always pulled the driveshaft first. Now, if you undo the back and
center attachments and let the driveshaft "lie down," it will assist
in pulling it off the flywheel.

It's taken a long time, and a lot of prying and pulling and jacking
and wiggling and cursing, but the motor is clear of the brake booster
and the steering rack and the frame, with plenty of room before it'll
smash into the AC condenser. It's only hung up on the damn giubo.
Now that I think about it, I don't know why the spined yoke hasn't
come off though--I loosened the pinch bolt, and it was definitely
moving on the splines.
