Re: [alfa] '86 to '89 Spider owners with sport seats

Hi Biba:

The seats you're referring to are the ones used in Veloce and Quadrifoglio models (all the way up through '93), and I like them so much I've installed a set in my '74 Spider. And, I've got another set in the '87 Spider, but since it's a Veloce, it was built that way. I think they're much better than any of the other seats used in Spider's, both in terms of comfort and support, and I've spent many entire days in them without any discomfort. If you're looking for a used pair, be wary of the ones from the '88's, as they had those funky motorized belts which crossed your inner shoulder. They can be used, but need to be switched left for right, and the shoulder belt guides are so tall that they'll interfere with the top frame. If you swap the guides out from any other year, you're OK, though.

Are these seats as comfortable as they look? I've been toying with the
idea of adding a largish chunk of foam beyond the front of where the
older Spider seats end - then having upholstery made to fit. I've been
looking at pictures of the '84 / '85 GTV6 I had and thought I'd use that
as a starting point, thigh bolster wise.

I can't imagine how anyone could drive more than 100 miles without
muscle cramps in the non sport seats unless they posses what is
apparently the normal Italian butt to under knee length thigh. Jeeze,
the Round-Tail's seats even taper down at the front.

Don't suppose anyone has a spare pair of these seats, freshly
upholstered, and in a combination of solid and perforated medium brown
leather which they'd like to sell cheap?

I thought not.
