[alfa] Rear end whine, and help needed in the Bay Area

I wanted to tap into collective wisdom again. Never had to deal with
differentials up to this point, but my "new" Spider has a distinct whine
coming from the rear, noticeable mostly on deceleration, or coasting in
neutral. Under load the noise seems to go away.
What would be the most likely diagnosis in this scenario, and likely cure? In
case I need a new rear axle, are they interchangeable between the years? My
car is a late model Spider.

On a different note, there's a 164 being parted out in Oakland, and I'd like
to get the windshield from it. I have arranged transportation from the Bay
area to Seattle, but need someone to remove the windshield from the car for
me. I'd like to reimburse the person for the troubles, if there's somebody
equipped for the job. All you'd really need is a long bladed utility knife to
cut the bonding glue around the perimeter, and a means to store the glass for
a few days until it is picked up. The catch is, it needs to happen within the
next 8-10 days. Thanks,
