RE: [alfa] Spider wiring question

Alan -

This is a fairly common problem. I'm fixed more than a few cars suffering
from this ailment.

The proper way to make the repair, is to splice in new wires where the go
from the car to the door. IOW, pull back the boot (rubber tube that the
wires go through) cut the wires in the middle and pull them out from both
ends. This will require removing the door panel, and possibly some other
interior trim.

Cut out the bad section(s) of wire, and run your new wire through the boot
from the car to the door. Make your splices on either end. Don't try to make
the splice in the middle where the wires flex as the door opens and closes,
it won't last.

Use some GOOD QUALITY 18 gauge stranded wire and you should be all set.

HTH,

Jeff

Subject: [alfa] Spider wiring question

The electrical wiring for the electric window and speaker and side view
mirror in the driver's door of my 91 Spider has broken. The window
don't go up or down unless I press on the black rubber tubing that
covers them. The speaker has never really worked. Never could get the
dealer to do anything about it that would last. What is the best way to
repair it? There is not enough play in the wires to splice them. What
type and size of wiring do I get?
