[alfa] 164 S Mystery

I have a mysterious noise in the left front of my 164S.  It is a scraping
sound.  The clues:

It is NOT affected by the brakes or steering
It goes away under hard acceleration
It gets worse with medium accelleration, lessens with clutch in or coasting
No difference between turning or going straight ahead
No detectable play in wheel bearing
Brakes have plenty of pad and appear OK
Fresh motor mounts

Anybody had this experience?
