RE: [alfa] CarDisc Page Capture
I have the early 70's spider and the GTV6 discs and most files are
apparently a modified BMP with incorrect PIC extension. A few photos are
actual BMP. Most of my graphics programs won't open the pages until I open
them first with ACDSEE which is a really top notch program - especially good
for batch changes. They are at www.acdsystems.com
Once the pages are open in ACDSee, it can save every one of the pages (fast)
as a TIFF or JPEG etc and then they can be opened by most any other graphics
program (as I verified this time). It would be easy (with the right
software) to "rebuild" this CD, but I do think the disk is reasonably priced
and should be supported as intended by CarDisc. If anyone really needs one
single page in a better format for a special purpose, ask off list.

in all probability they've done something silly like take a standard format
and
pad the front of the file with extra characters or xor the beginning of the
file
with extra characters. they do the trivial transformation on load and then
use
stock tools to display it.
