[alfa] re Anglia.

yeah, we should all have bought Dutch cars...

In the '60s, England did indeed lose the plot on how to build series production
cars (although the Nissan factory in N.England is now the most efficient in
Europe), but when it comes to design and technology today, there is nobody to
touch them. Where did Mercedes-Benz go when they wanted a flagship GT car? To
Mclaren. Take a look at a Formula 1 GP. The Williams, Mclaren, Jordan, BAR and
Jaguar teams are all UK teams, as are the Subaru, Ford and Mitsubishi WRC
teams. The "Mercedes" engines in the Mclarens are designed and built by Ilmor
nr Northampton...although of course that isn't much of a recommendation this
year so far....They built all the good recent Chevrolet racing engines too.
The Ford GT40 was designed in West London. etc etc

No I'm not "disgusted" by their design, I just prefer my Alfa to an MG - but an
MGA twincam...I saw a red one in a deserted Piazza in Rome once, it looked like
it belonged there. I think Jaguar flew the flag well enough into the early
seventies and their financial bailing out by Ford has been handled really well,
much better than GM did with Opel or Saab. I wish I could afford an XK-R or a
series 1 XKE coupe. It would beat waiting for the latest FWD Alfa to be
imported to the USA (stifles yawn).
