[alfa] stepping up? to a Ferrari

I too considered getting a 308 GT4 pretty long and hard, more than once.
I've liked the looks since they were new, and the back seat for my kids.
But once I began asking around, I got a lot of feedback, including from
several AD members, that even a good one is expensive to own, hard to work
on at home if you're so inclined, and not really that fun to drive in the
real world. One guy commented that he was happy to get rid of the GT4 and
get back to his GTV. All third-hand talk at this point, but I thought it
was valuable. Also, all the GT4s I could "afford" were either unmaintained
trouble and/or out of state, and couldn't have passed Calif smog. I've
repeatedly heard that even the best running carbed 308 of any period is
going to have a hell of a time passing smog.

So rather than buy a GT4, last weeked I moved in some direction and bought a
sad-case 2.0 Fiat Dino Coupe. I leave it up to your judgment whether that's
up, down, or sideways. Now I get to enjoy the double benefit of Ferrari
parts and labor prices, and Fiat resale value. Project One is to rebuild
its engine. Oh boy...
