[alfa] Hillsborough Concours



Congratulations to John Cecil for being accepted at Hillsborough - quite
an honor. I've never been there, but know it is considered to be an
extremely nice event. I'm somewhat surprised there apparently hadn't
either been a judges meeting beforehand, or that touching  the car is
"simply not done" wasn't mentioned, or the  assistant judges were asleep
at the switch when it was mentioned. I'd guess the latter.

I would be curious to know if the selection of cars along with the
judging at Hillsborough is pro or con a slight amount of "gilding of the
lily" or if absolute originality is expected. The absolutely beautiful
tapered water inlet on top of the head on John Mozart's 1937 8C2900B is
chromed. It might have left the factory that way, but doubt it. I would
guess it was made out of either brass or copper originally, possibly
polished, but not plated. I saw the car at the Newport Beach (left one)
concours shortly after the car won Best of Show at Pebble Beach. It
either won Best of Show there also or "merely" best in its class.
Obviously judges at both venues were unconcerned if it "might now have
been originally plated" - or else it was originally and I don't know
what I'm talking about. An absolute tits engine bay and car in every
respect.

Just wondering if a switch to shut off the starter solenoid might have
"saved the day" for the Round-Tail and helped get third place?
