[alfa] 1969 Spider Ignition Switch Problem?

Bruce Sharer writes, in ad10-0043, about a problem he is having wiring a 1750 Spider ignition switch, following a diagram he got some time ago from IAP. He seems to be sorting the connections by wire color and terminal position "The diagram that I have shows left to right from the driver's seat looking down: green/black and brown together on the left terminal, red in the center, and black on the right. There is no mention about upper three or lower three. By the way, the terminal are arranged in a circle on the back of the switch."

This may or may not be a clue, but there are two different brands of switch, Nieman and Sipea, and several different switch part numbers, which may or may not reflect different electrical paths in switches which may appear to be interchangeable.. The terminals, regardless of position, should have standard numbers. The various 1750 wiring diagrams all have ignition switch terminals numbered 30, 50, and 15/34 in various orders. A much later (1983) listing of DIN terminal numbers from an ARI service bulletin (AR Service Bulletin 66-02) which I posted to the digest gave terminal 30 as "Input direct from battery positive", terminal 50 as "Starting motor control (direct)", and terminal 15 as "Switched positive output from battery, ignition switch" but did not list a terminal 34.

This is unlikely to be the whole answer, but chasing numbered terminals may be more productive than matching physical positions of terminals. Meanwhile, if anyone has earlier terminal designation listings which differ from the mid-eighties DIN lists, I would appreciate seeing them posted. Also, one should know that the 1983 list had Italian listings for terminals of generators, regulators, and alternators which differed from the standard DIN listings.
