[alfa] fuel pressure
What you are describing are classic symptoms of a clogging fuel filter.
When the car is off, all the crud settles into the bottom of the filter
housing. As you drive though, more and more of the crud gets drawn up
against the filter itself, eventually clogging it, causing fuel pressure
warnings and eventually a sputtering engine. Turning the engine off
causes the crud to start falling to the bottom of the housing again,
which is why the problem seem so intermittent.
Before you do anything expensive or involved I would strongly recommend
you replace at least the rear fuel filter. Please note that even if the
filter is new, it can still get clogged up with just one silty tank of
gas from, say, an old gas station.
