[alfa] GTV brakes problems

Hi All,

I recently had power loss during brake pedal depression in a 72 GTV. The
shop cited master cylinder failure and replaced it, as well as some
cracked hoses and worn pads. However, the problem still exists, but to a
less extent. On the initial brake pedal depression after driving for a
minute or so, the pedal is soft and can be depressed almost to the floor,
if constant, firm pressure is applied. However, one small pump and the
pedal tightens up, like I imagine it should. Then again, after driving a
while, the initial depression is soft, and one small pump and it firms up.
Additionally, there is a small high-pitched noise..the kind of noise one
would make if you pinched a filled balloon by the neck and let the air out
slowly. If I jiggle the brake pedal, the noise may go away, or may get
worse. Is the initial soft depression and then firming characteristic of
Alfa brake behavior? Is the high-pitched noise a symptom of booster
failure? The shop didnt seem that there was a problem with the brake
system, but said the power booster might be going. I am mostly concerned
that they sent me off on the road with faulty brakes. Did they? Any
suggestions? Thanks.
