Front wheel bearing.

One of my front wheels had a loose bearing so I thought I would replace it.
This done I find I still have play in the bearing no matter how tight I
adjust it. I pulled it all apart again to find under the grease the stub
axle has a wear groove where the inner bearing runs. I guess I am going to
need a replacement stub axle, are these hard to remove? Does it need a
special puller to separate it?
