Number plates

In a message from John Clayton re Star cars, he raised the topic of number
plates on cars in Australia.

In australia, number plates are governed by the individual states/territories.

Western Australia use to have a system where country town numbers commenced
with a 2 character prefix referring to the town name, but I am not sure if
this still happens.

at one stage one could identify a vehicles home state by the colour and
prefix characters of the numbers, such asnew south wales use to have black
on yellow plates, south autralia black on white, Austrlaian capital
territory white on blue.

But this has seemed to have gone by the board nowdays. the ACT does still
prefix its numbering system with a "Y"

beside the standard numbering system, one can, for a specified number of
"readies" can get numbers of choice, such as BRIAN, COLIN, STAG, that is a
personal name, HOLDEN, FORD, etc. or even a business name providing it
is maximum of 6 characters. Of course the the more in demand the more
readies are required.

Therefore, it is possible to get a plate, such as , STAG, STAG74 74
STAG, ETC.

KEEP STAGGERING BRIAN
