Inlet manifold installation

Don't loosen your head(s) if you can possibly avoid it, as they are very
unlikely to seal properly again.

Before you try to refit the manifold check and correct the flanges. You
will probably find they are bowed badly and if refitted like that they will
still leak. Either use a file carefully with reference to an absolutely
flat surface (slow job), or take it to a machine shop and have them take
the absolute minimum material off. The front and rear flanges each side
must be completely in line.

Check the bolt-holes in the head to be unworn, and if any are loose have
Helicoils (or similar) fitted. This can be done in position.

The inlet manifold gaskets should be GREASED. This is not silly, it is the
correct procedure and enables the coating on the cardboard to slide into
the correct position and seal to the cylinder heads correctly. Adding
silicone compound is not advised bacause it can easily get in the waterways
and stop water flow.

Note that TR7 inlet manifold gaskets are different. They are the same
profile, but the material is much thicker and with these you will be unable
to line up the bolts to refit.

Hope above helps
