Re: radiator servicing

The stock '73 radiator was most likely a 4 row "D" pattern, that is two rows
forward, next  two rows down toward the rear, alternating 2 forward/2 rear for the
length of the core, gill type.  A "gill" is a thin sheet of copper that contacts
all the rows as it passes vertically through the length of the core.  This " 4 row
D is adequate for most cooler climates, but I'd go with a 3 or 4 row - 16 fins per
inch, or an uprated "gill" style radiator.  Best bet is to visit your glycol
sniffing radiator repair specialist, have him call the core manufacturer with your
side tank sizes, and ask for a radiator core that will drop a net 50 degrees F for
220 degree F input coolant temp.  That will get them close enough to tell you the
size needed.  Of course there are other factors like flow rate, air flow, ambient
temp, etc, etc, etc, but the manufacturer has the charts for most engines in most
climates.
