I have to confess that it was traced by a garage who had the car for over a
week to try to trace the fault. I had checked all the usual things and
connections and could not find the problem - I never suspected that the
Lumenition would have an intermittent fault causing an intermittent misfire.
I think it was traced using one of these all singing and dancing computers.

I do not know why the box failed but it was about 10 years old so I think that
you can get dry electrical joints that break down over time. I can only assume
this was the case.  Unfortunately I do not have the faulty one for inspection.
