[ihc] General Announcement

A bit offtopic to the digest....

I just wanted to officially say I'm back from a week in IL for a flight team
competition. I took 5th in the region for power off (simulated engine
failure) landings. Landing distances are measured to the foot in distance
from a target line. The lowest distances from two out of three landings are
added together for the total score.

Our aircraft never made it to IL (weather; they were stuck in Kentucky, then
Indiana, all week), so I did the competition in an aircraft I never sat foot
in before the event (it was the same type we used, but aircraft can vary a
lot) and on a runway that I'd never flown onto before... this isn't a
problem as far as landing itself, in this case, since the runway was narrow,
it messes up perception at a distance, and when you measure down to the foot
when moving 80-90mph, while making somewhat fixed adjustments, 1/2 mile away
or more, it makes it just a little more challenging.

Anyway, just wanted to announce that I got a medal and it made my day (this
was my last competition since I should graduate in the spring, and thus my
last opportunity to earn one).

Thanks,
Ryan
