RE: [ihc] 727 Fluid leak !!URGENT!!
Joel,
I maintain it is possible to do without dropping everything. I've done
it from above, through the shifter cover. It wasn't fun, and I had to
sacrifice a screwdriver to make a seal puller tool. This was on a
Traveler. I hate dropping AT pans, especially if they aren't due for a
change. Crunched for time, you should probably do it the way you know.
When you have time to mess around sometime try it from above. I
generally change those seals before I install trannies whether they seem
to need it or not. I guess you are probably due for a fluid and filter
change anyway after all the towing you have been doing. You know how to
find a new one of the little seals, right?
Good luck,
Ed

Michael,
My estimate is only for the time to drain the trans, drop the
valve
body, and remove and replace the seals.
It doesn't require removing the trans from the truck.
-and oh yeah. Thanks! If *I* impress you, you certainly are
easy
to impress. ;)

Joel-
I can offer you NO help, but I will say that if you estimate this job as
only three hours, I am impressed by you period!
I can't even get a tranny out in three hours-but then again, I have no
manuals, don't have the right tools, and half of my time is spent
getting
the thing to balance on two jacks that are NOT tranny jacks, and getting
myself out of the way for a "controlled" lowering of the tranny!
Good luck with it! Sorry to hear about the terrible timing!
Michael
